Relationship Counseling

I work with a wide range of couples—married, co-habiting, pre-marital, gay and lesbian partners, close friends, siblings, adult children and parents. I start with no assumptions and no expectations other than a firm belief that opening communication is key. It can sometimes be rough, sometimes frustrating, sometimes painful, but always healing.

Couple with Shadow

Loss and Grief
Nowadays, we don't really know how to grieve and how to console. Grief is one of life’s experiences that we all share, yet most people are very alone in their grief. Extreme emotions accompany grief and loss. Judith helps clients establish a sense of balance, find new meaning, and reintegrate with life.

Psychotherapy and Aging
Life's hardest adjustments come at the end of life. Letting go of "life as it was" becomes the real challenge. Facing a diminishing future raises difficult questions. You may find yourself down in the dumps or anxious all the time. Don't be resigned. This is not a normal part of getting older. There are underlying causes and solutions and hope. The first step is the willingness to keep rediscovering yourself and trusting that there is meaning in life up to the very last moment.

Pregnancy Loss graphicPregnancy Loss
Women physically recover from pregnancy loss in a relatively short time. The emotional recovery often takes much longer--weeks, or months, or even years. The loss of a life unlived carries other losses--lost dreams, lost plans, lost expectations of family, of parenting, of the future. Judith works with women and couples, both individually and in groups, and she accepts all clients regardless of the circumstances of loss.

Death and Dying
What good can counseling do at the end of life? It is an opportunity for resolution, for forgiveness, for making meaning out of a life lived, for leaving a legacy, and for acceptance. And it is a time for bringing families, friends, and loved ones together, for recalling memories, and for shared bereavement. Judith works with terminally ill clients and their circle of family, friends, and caretakers.

Living with a Serious Illness
Learn how counseling can help when you are dealing with a serious or life-threatening illness. Judith provides a range of mental health and medical advocacy services.

CounselingCounseling for the Caregiver
If you are the primary caregiver of a loved one, you can often feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and even resentful at times for putting your own life on hold, and then guilty for feeling that way. If you have been a caregiver and suddenly that role ends, you may find that your life has little purpose, or that you need to redefine yourself or reestablish a sense of meaning and self-worth. For the caregiver, self-care is a primary goal of counseling. For the caregiver whose role has ended, the goal of counseling is self-exploration and meaning making.

Common Mental Health Problems
Judith works with clients dealing with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustments to life transitions, and relationship problems. She sees individuals and couples. She offers a range of techniques for dealing with stress and stress-related problems, including present-moment meditation. In addition, she provides "counseling for recovery" (alcohol and drug dependency, in particular benzodiazepine dependency). She coordinates treatment with other mental health and medical professionals as needed.
