Whether face to face or virtual, counseling is all about trust and relationship.
The virtual approach to counseling and consulting on mental health issues is still in its infancy, but the code of ethics still applies, including:
Confidentiality & Client Welfare. Online counseling is restricted from public view. Currently, my online counseling is done via my chat room. All communication is kept in strictest confidence. As a professional counselor, my primary responsibility is to assure your privacy, respect your dignity, and promote your welfare.
Professional Responsibility. Counselors practice only within their competencies, based on education, training, supervision, and state and national professional credentials. If I do not feel competent to address the issue(s) presented prior to our online session, I will state so immediately and provide a referral to the best of my ability.
Client Rights. Online counseling will include an assessment of your problems and needs in a shared discussion. I will NOT provide a clinical diagnosis. However, I will provide suggestions on a reasonable course of action, for example: setting goals, seeking out professional help in your locality, recommending additional educational and informational resources, and identifying helpful coping techniques and skills. Fees and Payments. Online counseling fees are clearly stated when you schedule an appointment (Schedule a Session). Terms of payment and refund for cancelled appointments are also provided.
